Red Hughs success would ‘mean everything’ – Callaghan

BY RYAN FERRY

RED HUGHS defender Cathy Callaghan says it would ‘mean everything’ if her team could finally get their hands on the elusive Junior ‘B’ Championship crown this Saturday.

The girls from the Cross have faced final heartache in successive years but keep coming back for more.

“This is our third final in-a-row,” Callaghan told the Donegal News.

“We lost to MacCumhaills and then St Michael’s so we’re hoping the third time is the charm for us.

“We’re going up now against Dungloe who are a team we have never played before.

“We will see how it goes. We have been training hard this year.

“We have been unlucky as such with injuries and one thing after another.

“But we are back and better than before and girls have put in a massive effort especially over the last couple of weeks.

“We’re in it to win it.”

It hasn’t been a straight-forward campaign for Red Hughs but they got the better of Milford by 1-8 to 0-8 in the semi-final and should be battle-hardened.

“We beat Milford in the semis.

“We were behind in the first half.

“But going into the second half we really found our stride and we went on to win.

“That was a good win because Milford had beaten us in the group.

“It meant so much to the girls and the management to get that win and we’re delighted to be back in the final again.

“It would mean everything if we could win it.”
