A big fundraising night in memory of popular Convoy man Danny Mac Bride will take place this Saturday night.
‘Oh Danny Boy’, the Danny Mac Bride memorial night, will be hosted in the Finn Valley Bar & Bistro with funds raised going to the LUH Oncology Unit and the Make A Wish Foundation – two causes close to the Mac Bride family’s hearts.
Danny, from Broadroad in Convoy, passed away in January 2022 aged just 50 years.
Music for the event on Saturday has been sponsored by The Wrafters and organisers are promising great food and plenty of community spirit.
There will also be a raffle with fantastic prizes and an auction featuring some exciting items, giving everyone the chance to get involved while supporting these worthwhile causes.
Most importantly, it will be an opportunity for family, friends and the wider community to come together, share memories and celebrate Danny’s life and legacy.
Danny was one of the proprietors of the successful MacBride Bros Joinery, founded in 1993, and was a keen motorsport enthusiast.
A long-time competitor in tarmac rallies, he competed in the Donegal International Rally and rallies across the country on a regular basis since the 1990s.
In 2008, he won Group N in the Donegal Harvest Rally in a VIII Lancer. He competed first in a Suzuki Swift and later competed with his son Evan calling the notes, in a Honda Civic.
He was survived by his wife Yvonne, sons Christopher, Daniel, Evan and Eamonn, daughter Louise, grandson Harry and a wide circle of family and friends.
“‘You are never busy by coincidence,’ he often remarked and it is no wonder that he tried to cram so much into life,” Fr Eamon Kelly said at his funeral Mass in St Mary’s Church, outside which Donegal Motor Club and Convoy Arsenal members formed a guard of honour.
