IT wasn’t easy to follow successful duo Adrian and Kevin McGettigan into the Termon ladies managerial dugout, but club stalwart Johnny McCafferty answered the call when it came.
McCafferty is heavily involved in coaching at the Burn Road, and his talented daughters Kate and Grace are starting to make an impression at senior level now.
No-one can say for sure how long the good times will last and Termon want to win as much as possible while they have a strong panel at their disposal.
“A bit of pressure came on at Christmas time,” said McCafferty.
“I have two daughters who were coming onto the panel at that stage.
“Look, the medals mightn’t be there forever, so for them and the other younger girls, we will try and get them a title and a medal before a new crop of players come through.”
McCafferty is full of praise for the club’s senior players who continue to drive standards while managing busy family and work commitments.
“They have a great mentality and to be honest, they are very easily managed.
“They just get on with it, and they have an awful hunger to win and keep on winning, and that’s going the last ten or 15 years.
“They were very disappointed last year and they sat down and wanted to try and get this one back.
“We’re here now and we know we are up against it. We played St Eunan’s earlier in the year and we have been looking at them.
“It will be tough to get this one and we will give it everything we can.”
McCafferty admits that he wasn’t surprised to see St Eunan’s dethrone Glenfin in the semi-final.
“No I definitely wasn’t.
“We weren’t concentrating on Glenfin at all.
“We were looking at a few other teams that we had played as well.
“And look we were very, very lucky and dodged a bullet against Dungloe.
“We were very lucky to be in this final ourselves.”
Sunday’s final has been fixed for O’Donnell Park but the Termon club are disappointed with that and are seeking an alternative venue.
“That’s an issue and our club are dealing with that at the moment.
“It’s nothing against St Eunan’s but it’s very unfair for one team to have home advantage.
“I think there was a motion passed at a forum that that shouldn’t happen.
“I can’t see the game going ahead in O’Donnell Park on Sunday.
“But we just have to get on with it and keep focused on what we need to do.
“I don’t know what happened but hopefully it can be sorted and maybe sorted by tonight (Tuesday) because I’m sure ourselves and St Eunan’s want to focus on the game and not be worrying about a venue.”
