THIS Friday, February 21, Clodagh Barry sets off on her marathon horseback ride across the county and all in aid of the Donegal Down Syndrome Association.

A gruelling trip that takes the leaving certificate student from Newtowncunningham from Donegal’s most north-westerly point at Arranmore Lighthouse, to Donegal’s most northerly point at Malin Head, non-stop, taking over 24 hours.

She will ride the 5 km across Arranmore island in the morning, get the short Arranmore ferry across to the mainland to leave Burtonport at 1.30pm.

Clodagh plans to reach Letterkenny at about 10.30pm Friday evening, where she will be met by members of the Downs Syndrome Association. Leaving Letterkenny, she will proceed on to Inishowen, where she will be met at various locations across the peninsula who will join her on their horses as she proceeds towards Malin Head.

Clodagh’s team appeal to road users to be aware that there will be horses on the roads day and night on the peninsula, to exercise caution and if they meet horses on the road, to please slow down and give them room.
