Vandalised Doochary sign restored

THE Doochary welcome sign which was vandalised and broken last month has been restored to its former glory.

The sign, which was made of stone and engraved with ‘Failte An Ducharaidh’, was completely destroyed and broken into pieces.

The incident sparked outrage among locals as there has been an ongoing spate of vandalism in the area in recent months.

However, the stone has now been repaired and is back to its original state.

The stone was rebuilt by Patrick Caulfield and retouched by Aidan Bonnar.

A spokesperson for the Doochary Development group said, “A massive thank you to Aidan Bonner for pointing up the Doochary welcome stone and re-doing the lettering.

“Well done. You have done a fantastic job.

“We are sure everyone is relieved to see it looking so good again.”

The well known stone was located at the entrance of the village at a picnic area overlooking a viewpoint at the top of the corkscrew.

The stone was originally erected by community volunteer Manus Elliott.
