HOT ON the heels of picking up an Irish Times Theatre Award for Sparkplug, both Little John Nee and Sparkplug Callaghan are back in a new show Nostalgia: Sparkplug Troubles at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, on Friday and Saturday, May 10/11 and tickets are absolutely free.
Sometimes a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do: even if it means getting in touch with his inner cowboy, not easy for a bluesman like Sparkplug Callaghan.
Nostalgia: Sparkplug Troubles is Little John Nee’s follow up to Sparkplug which won the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Sound Design and was also broadcast as a radio play by RTE, as was another Sparkplug instalment recently: Wee Black Bees.
This time he’s in for a life changing encounter with the Amish of County Tyrone… This project is part-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Donegal County Council.
TRIBUTE TO TRAVELLERS
Little John is also hosting a very special event in Ballyshannon on Thursday night, May 16, at the Abbey in Ballyshannon. Entitled ‘A Starry Night’ the event will see Little John and a number of friends pay tribute to well-known musical members of the Traveller Community.
Appearing alongside Little John will be well-known Galway musician Sean Tyrrell, Raphoe fiddle player Martin McGinley and Letterkenny singer and musician Orlaith Gilchrist.
Musicians and singers the featured artists will pay tribute to include Donegal travelling fiddle player Johnny Doherty and singer Margaret Barry. The show begins at 8pm.
