Parishioners to hold candlelit vigil in attempt to keep Fr Paddy Dunne

PARISHIONERS in Kilmacrennan are holding a candlelit vigil as part of their campaign to keep Fr Paddy Dunne as parish priest in the area.

The candlelit vigil is being held in the Kilmacrennan Chapel car park on Friday night at 9pm. Candles will be provided.

It comes as the Bishop’s office announced a number of changes on Monday which included the retirement of Very Rev Cathal Ó Fearrai, Kilbarron, Ballyshannon with Kilmacrenan’s Fr Paddy Dunne to replace him.

The move will become effective from June 24.

A number of parishioners have rejected the move and have launched a campaign for Fr Dunne to remain in the parish. A petition has been launched and so far, 689 people have signed the document.
