Original gigs at The Balor this weekend

The Balor, Ballybofey underlines it’s reputation as a premier venue for original music this weekend.

Monthly original music night The Ghostlight Sessions enjoys its final outing of 2022 on Friday, November 4 while Castlefin singer-songwriter Mickey Duffy launches his album Making Changes on Saturday, November 5.

The Ghostlight Sessions has attracted top quality acts from all over the country this year and November continues this trend headlined by Lemoncello.

The duo of Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella are amongst the brightest lights of contemporary Irish Music.

Prodigiously talented and accomplished musicians in their own rights, together they are a unique and rare offering.

Their “intoxicating and sassy” live performances are filled with chemistry and humour as they charm audiences with an irresistible charisma and personality.

As seasoned musicians they have collaborated and performed with esteemed artists including Joshua Burnside (Quirke And Burnside’s Taking The Wheel was nominated for Best Folk Song at RTE Folk Awards 2021), David Keenan, Sam Amidon, Lisa O’Neill, CMAT, The Mary Wallopers, and Cormac Begley while notable live appearances include Other Voices and Dublin’s legendary Vicar St..

Also on the bill are Strabane bred, Dublin based Singer/Songwriter Paul Tully and Ballybofey’s Jess Hannigan.

Paul has carved out an impressive reputation as a gifted tunesmith.

His musical career has seen him play extensively around Ireland supporting the likes of Foy Vance, Cara Dillon & Paul Brady along the way.

Jess’s music combines folk and blues elements, drawing inspiration from artists like Bonnie Raitt and Paul Simon as well as soul artists such as H.E.R. Her debut EP is coming very shortly.

The Balor is delighted to host the launch of local singer-songwriter Mickey Duffy’s new album Making Changes this coming Saturday night.

Mickey has put together a top class band for the evening comprising Mick McCarney on guitar, Billy Robinson on drums and Romek Parol on drums.

Guitarist Mick began his career with Donegal 80’s soul funk band Quarterdeck and has since gone on to play with the likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. ‘Naked Lunch'(Steely Dan Tribute band), Dolores Keane, Chiara Browne and Ben Reel.

Billy Robinson is a sound engineer, record producer and musician who has produced and worked with a who’s who of local, national and international musicians during his long and storied career while Romek Parol has toured extensively with the likes of Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell.

Opening act on the night will be Donegal singer-songwriter Jonathan Smeaton, an acclaimed veteran of the Donegal music scene.

The Ghostlight Sessions with Lemoncello, Paul Tully and Jess Hannigan is on Friday, November 4 at 8pm, admission €15.

Mickey Duffy launches his new album Making Changes on Saturday, November 5 at 8pm, admission also €15.
