New MD Mayors to be elected this week

TWO new Municipal District Mayors are set to be elected this week.
Firstly in the Lifford Stranorlar MD, Sinn Féin Councillor Liam Doherty is expected to be elected to the position of Cathaoirleach this morning (Monday).
The MD’s annual general meeting is being held online tomorrow, and Cllr Doherty is expected to be nominated for the top position.
Cllr Doherty, who is from Convoy, will take over the role from Killygordon Fianna Fáil Cllr Patrick McGowan.
Meanwhile, Independent Councillor from Letterkenny Kevin Bradley is tipped to become the new Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District.
The annual general meeting of the MD will take place on Tuesday afternoon in the Public Services Centre in Letterkenny.
It is expected that Bradley will succeed Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly in the chain of office.
The new Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council will take over the role from Cllr Liam Blaney at the Council’s AGM at the end of June.
The newly elected Mayors will be the final Mayors of this term as the 2024 Irish local elections are scheduled to be held in all local authorities in Ireland in May 2024.
The local election will be held on the same day as the 2024 European Parliament election.
