New builds in Donegal increase by 88 per cent

HOUSE commencements in Donegal for the first two months of 2024 are up 88 per cent on the previous year.

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published its monthly data on the number of Commencements Notices (residential construction starts) for February 2024.

The data shows that in the first two months of 2024, there have been commencement notices for 62 homes in Donegal, an 88 per cent increase on the same period in 2023 (33 units).

Momentum has continued into 2024, with 7,056 new homes commenced nationally in a record-high first two months of the year, up 72 per cent compared to the first two months of last year.

These figures indicate that supply, which is key to addressing our housing needs continues to increase and that a robust stock of new housing is in the pipeline.
