Retailers in Letterkenny are all backing the Love Sterling campaign and are displaying their exchange rate in bright pink letters as the Euro continues to weaken against sterling and they are all set to reap the rewards just in time for the Easter break.

Brian McCormick, Letterkenny Chamber President said “There is so much value to be had at the minute across Letterkenny and if a customer is using sterling they can get up to 40% extra. As the commercial centre of Donegal we are well used to exchange rate fluctuations and we are taking full advantage of the exchange rate at this moment.  Over Easter we generally see an increase in visitors and holiday makers from Northern Ireland and we hope that the exchange rate gives them an opportunity to shop, stay and relax in Letterkenny.”

Letterkenny Chamber under its ShopLK brand is trying to keep up with the changing rate, with some businesses changing daily. This week we are seeing rates varying in the range €1.35 – €1.40 with some even offering more.

Brian continues “This is Letterkenny’s time to make hay while the sun shines and we want to welcome back all our Northern customers to re-discover what Letterkenny has to offer. This town has a great shopping reputation and we are keen to keep our loyal customers and to attract back those who may not have been here for a while and with Spring in full swing what better time to experience all that Letterkenny has to offer.”

It’s the value and variety that draws people to Letterkenny. It still has an active and busy traditional Main Street with big brands working alongside independent and family businesses.  Then close by are the shopping centres, the retail parks and lots more in between and after a few hours shopping there’s lots of places to relax for a coffee, a meal or for family entertainment. No matter where you go in Letterkenny, you’ll see the big brands you know and love and you’ll get even more for your money.

Letterkenny’s other little secret is the amount of parking available, there are over 3000 spaces some of which are free and others charging just €1.50 for the whole day.  If you’re just popping in for a message there is still 30 minutes free on street parking across the town.  If you haven’t heard or are a bit confused about what this means to you read on. You can park in any of the on-street spaces in Letterkenny without a ticket for 30 minutes from the time you pull in.  If you want to stay longer you need to purchase a ticket from one of the parking meters and then the maximum stay is 2 hours.

Toni Forrester, Letterkenny Chamber says “Letterkenny offers such a fantastic variety of retail outlets with virtually all the brand names you might recognise in other cities, but where Letterkenny stands out is the convenience and value. All the shopping areas are easily accessible either on foot or just a short drive, parking is free and/or very reasonable and with the exchange rate at the moment what’s not to like.  We know there are lots of people who haven’t visited in a while so this Easter why not do your spending in Letterkenny.”
