Illistrin school gets go ahead for major two-storey extension

A LETTERKENNY national school has been given the green light for a major extension.

The Board of Management of Scoil Naomh Fiachra lodged plans with Donegal County Council in October of last year, seeking the demolition/removal of the existing school temporary mobile classrooms for the construction of a two-storey extension at Illistrin National School.

According to plans lodged, the two-storey extension will comprise 16 general classrooms, a single-storey extension comprising four general classrooms and a new special educational needs (SEN) entrance.

The projected development will also include single-storey extensions to provide SEN safe places and refurbishment of part of existing school for a four-class special education needs suite.

Car and bus set down spaces, including 40 standard car parking spaces for staff, 24 drop off car parking spaces and 60 cycle park spaces are also included in proposals.

Also in the plans are an SEN play space, sensory garden and all associated site services and development works.

Conditions

Donegal County Council has given the go-ahead subject to 15 conditions.

These include that prior to the commencement of the development the applicant must submit a written consultation management plan to the Planning Authority for written agreement.

This should detail the location and details of all temporary construction access to the site and the planned phasing of all demolition.

The plan must also detail all mitigation measures to minimise the impact of any noise vibration and dust nuisance from the construction of the development, and in particular any rock breaking and proposals for the management of all required road closures.
