THE Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, is delighted to end its programme of Spring music with a world class traditional fiddle concert.

Following a brilliant sell out concert by Mairéad Ni Mhaonaigh, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas last weekend, the great Chicago Irish Fiddler Liz Carroll will be joined by guitarist Seán Óg Graham from Beoga and bass player, Trevor Hutchinson, known for his work with Lunasa and The Waterboys for what promises to be another wonderful gig on Thursday, May 29.

Hot on the heels of the release of her most recent album, On the Offbeat, the Grammy nominated traditional fiddle-player, Liz Carroll, has teamed up with two of our most respected musicians to undertake a short Irish tour this May.

Chicago native Liz will be joined by guitarist Seán Óg Graham who plays with the band Beoga and Cookstown-born bass player, Trevor Hutchinson, known for his work with Lunasa and, previously, The Waterboys.

Liz has had a remarkable century. Her 2009 recording with John Doyle, Double Play, was nominated for a 2010 Grammy, which made Liz the first American-born artist nominated for playing Irish music- ever! On St. Patrick’s Day 2009, Liz travelled to Washington, D.C., to play for fellow Chicagoan, Barack Obama, at the annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon.

In 2005, Liz became a member of String Sisters a sextet of fiddlers from America, Ireland, Shetland and Norway. Their 2009 Live album was short-listed for a Grammy.
Liz Carroll is as comfortable sitting down to share a session in a backroom in Ireland as she is playing some of the concert stages of the world. A frequent and welcome visitor here her original compositions sit easily beside her effortless mastery of traditional tunes.

Presented in partnership with Earagail Arts Festival and Donegal Music Education Partnership, the concert starts at 8pm and tickets priced €12 and €10 concession can be booked at An Grianán Theatre Box Office on Tel 074 9120777.
