Government aiming to sign off on defective concrete block scheme on Friday

THE government is aiming to sign off on the final details of the new defective concrete block scheme on Friday.

The Mica Action Group (MAG) has been advised the defective concrete blocks act 2022 was commenced by the use of Statutory Instrument on Thursday, June 22.

This means the original 90/10 scheme has now ceased and is no longer in action.

However, to fully effect the new scheme, the regulations of the new scheme still need to be signed off and the Government are now aiming to finalise this by Friday, June 30.

However, despite the recent commitment, MAG is still sceptical about whether the deadline will be met.

A spokesperson for MAG said, “A Out Questions Answered’ guide will also be published by the Department of Housing alongside the final regulations.

“Homeowners are more than aware that the Government has failed to meet many previous deadlines, so we cannot guarantee the date given for finalisation of the regulation.”
