Good spell of weather could be on the way

DONEGAL could get an early taste of summer weather this week with temperatures to show a welcome increase over the coming days – lasting through until the weekend.

Only days after the council’s gritter lorries were in operation amid a drop in temperatures across the county, the forecast is for much milder weather.

Yesterday, temperatures rose to welcome highs of 18°C in some parts of the county and many people took advantage of the dry day by getting out and about before the children return to school after the Easter holidays today.

There was a noticable increase in numbers at some of the county’s beaches too while it was busier than normal at Ards Forest Park and Glenveagh National Park.

Met Éireann is forecasting similar temperatures for tomorrow as a spell of high pressure settles across the country. In some parts of the country temperatures could rise to 20°C.

It will remain dry throughout the week and more good weather is forecast for Saturday and Sunday with temperatures of 14°C predicted for Saturday and 15°C on Sunday.

We’re still some way off reaching the 1984 record for the hottest day ever recorded in the month of April in Donegal.

That year temperatures of 25.8°C degrees were recorded here.
