He was the much loved son of Adrian and Karen Mc Art and brother of Ultan and Fionnuala.

Addressing the congregation at his funeral in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Monsignor Kevin Gillespie spoke of how the Mc Art family cherished Ciarán.

Sharing a close bond with his older siblings, Ciarán moved to England when he was 20-years-old.
There, he was taken under their wing.

“It really stuck me how much you two care of him as a younger brother. And although he was 20 years of age when he went over to you, still, you made sure to look out for him,” Monsignor Gillespie said.

Ciarán’s nephew Joseph was his biggest fan.
Admiring his brightness and their mutual love for Man United, Ciarán is now remembered as a great friend, a great uncle and a great Godfather.

With Ciarán’s dedication to Man United, his total opposition to Liverpool and his dry but inoffensive sense of humour making him many friends, Monsignor Gillespie said it was “striking” how many travelled from abroad to show their loyalty to Ciarán, to stand with him and his family and to pray for him.

Following Mass, burial took place in Conwal Cemetery.

Ciarán will be dearly missed by his loving mother, father, sister, brother, nephews and niece, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R245 at Magherennan early this morning are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda station on 074 916 7100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
