MAKING a very welcome return to this year’s Earagail Arts Festival is the popular event Leviathan returning to Donegal. Leviathan is an event organised all around the country featuring public conversations crafted to inform, entertain and empower.
The event has been hosted by well-known names such as David McWilliams and Miriam O’Callaghan at least year’s event in Rathmullan House.
Hosted by Carlo Gébler, writer in residence at HMP Maghaberry, on this occasion, Leviathan began today at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny and continues tomorrow, Friday, July 19.
The event will feature two intimate afternoons of conversation and readings from three of Northern Ireland’s finest writers in Northern Lights: A Literary Journey Across Northern Ireland.
Gébler ’s novels include The Eleventh Summer (1985), Life of a Drum (1991) and How to Murder a Man (1998) along with works of non-fiction such as The Glass Curtain (1991), and Father & I (2000) a memoir about his relationship with his father, Ernest Gébler.
Earlier today Gébler was in conversation David Park who has written seven books, most recently the acclaimed The Truth Commissioner.
Park, a winner of the Christoper Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize, has also won the Authors’ Club First Novel Award, the Bass Ireland Arts Award for Literature, the American Ireland Fund Literary Award and the University of Ulster’s McCrea Literary Award, three times.
On Friday, Gébler will be in conversation with Glenn Patterson author of eight novels the most of which, The Mill for Grinding Old People Young (Faber & Faber), was the 2012 One City, One Book choice for Belfast and his first film Good Vibrations (co-written with Colin Carberry was released earlier this year. Both events are €5 and begin at 3pm sharp.
