TWO Donegal men were among 45 youth leaders from across the country who met with US Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in Dublin last week.
Ruairí Harvey from Killygordon and Paul Doherty from Castlefinn are members of the recently formed US Embassy Youth Council in Dublin.
The council was set up to advise the US Embassy on challenges facing young people in Ireland today and comprises youth leaders and representatives.
Mr Harvey is a Games and Player Welfare Administrator with the GAA in Croke Park while Mr Doherty is the President of the Students Union at Dublin City University (DCU).
Ms Clinton was in Dublin to attend the two-day ministerial council of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
A selection of Youth Council members met with Secretary Clinton before the group engaged in a roundtable discussion with Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, Ms Maria Otero, and Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues, Ms Zeenat Rahman.
Speaking to the Donegal News after the meeting, Mr Harvey described the encounter as a “great experience” and said Secretary Clinton was more than friendly to them.
The meeting capped a fine week for Mr Harvey which also saw him graduate from DCU with a Masters Degree in Sports and Exercise Management.
