Downings surf promoted in Italy

In the lush vineyards of Piedmont, Italy last week, founder of Winki Waves Surf School in Downings, Alessandro Bonardi, showcased the untapped surf potential of Donegal to a select Italian audience.

The Italian born international surfer, turned entrepreneur, gave his presentation at Cascina San Pietro, Uva Matris explaining why he chose Donegal as his base.

“Donegal’s rugged coastlines and pristine waters make it a hidden gem for surfers,” Alessandro explained to the gathered Italian audience.

His travels across the globe led him to Donegal, where he was captivated by its natural beauty and the warmth of the local community.

The presentation highlighted not just the surf opportunities but also the commitment to sustainability and local engagement that Winki Surf Lodge here embodies.

“Diving into Donegal’s surf culture from an international perspective allows us to bring a fresh, global approach to the local surf scene,” he said.

The event focused on connecting Italian surf enthusiasts with Ireland’s surf spots, particularly during the summer months when Italian seas are mostly calm.

The event, which was free and open to all, drew a diverse crowd from Milan and beyond, reinforcing the lodge’s inclusive ethos.
