Donegal had second highest number of Covid-19 cases

THE battle with the coronavirus is not over yet, despite Ireland’s high vaccination roll-out, according to the latest HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) figures. The national incidence rate of the coronavirus stands at 390.4 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 1,282 cases of Covid-19 notified in Donegal in the last fourteen days. The county has the second highest 14-day incidence rate of 805.3 cases per 100,000 population behind Monaghan (868.3).

As of Monday evening, 634 new cases had been reported in Donegal over the previous seven days with only Dublin and Cork recording more.
Louth, with a rate of 676.3 cases per 100,000 population, Carlow and Laois round out the top five behind Monaghan and Donegal while Wicklow, Leitrim, Sligo, Wexford and Galway are the five counties with the lowest incidence rate for the last 14 days, according to the HSPC.

Yesterday, Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) was the second busiest hospital in the country. There are 21 patients being treated for Covid-19 at the facility, two of whom were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Nationally, there were 272 admitted patients in hospital with the coronavirus with 61 receiving treatment in ICU.
