ALMOST eight million viewers tuned in to watch Daniel O’Donnell put in a sure-footed performance on his second outing on Strictly Come Dancing.
Daniel and his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff performed the iconic 1920s dance The Charleston with a ‘going to the races’ theme to the tune of Let’s Misbehave by Cole Porter.
The pair kicked off the performance with a mighty gallop and despite Daniel’s obvious nerves, the pair of flappers cleared all the hurdles and showed great composure throughout – quite the step up from last week’s gentle waltz.
Afterwards the comments from the judges were all extremely positive, though Bruno Tonioli did remark to a clearly out of breath Daniel that the energy levels had dipped during the performance.
“You’ve got to go full gallop all the time….. you’ve got to keep it going. It’s all about energy, energy”, he said. However Daniel drew a big round of applause when he politely pointed out that “this is a 53 year old horse you’re talking about!” Touché.
Craig Revel Horwood was full of admiration for Daniel’s footwork saying: “You do have fantastic rhythm and I think really there is a dancer lurking within”.
Darcey Bussell admitted that she didn’t think his Charleston was going to be so good, telling Daniel that “you came alive for me” while Len Goodman said while the performance was a little bit on the safe side if he was a bookie Daniel “would be odds on to be back next week”.
The pair notched up an impressive score of 23, just one less than for last week’s less complicated routine.
