Costs Council €2.3 million to keep the lights on

IT costs Donegal County Council more than €2.3 million to keep the lights on across the county each year.

There are more than 19,000 public lights across Donegal, seventy per cent of which (13,330) are LED lamps. The Council has commenced work on upgrading the public lighting infrastructure (columns/mini-pillars) with approximately ten per cent of the stock requiring replacement due to being end of life or damaged.

A provision of €2,351,607 is included in the latest Council Budget towards the operation and maintenance of public lighting for 2023.
