HEAVY snowfall overnight on Monday meant a number of cases at Tuesday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court had to be adjourned as defendants were unable to turn up due to the weather conditions.
Judge Paul Kelly was forced to adjourn a number of cases being brought by the State Solicitor until June, when he said he hoped there would be “less chance of snow”.
One defendant from Ballybofey failed to appear to answer charges and when Judge Kelly asked if anyone knew what they roads were like between Ballybofey and Letterkenny, he was told they were “not good”.
Another Churchill man was due before the court in relation to tax-related offences but solicitor, Patsy Gallagher, said he knew where the man lived and said it would be virtually impossible to get in from the rural location.
Solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, also told the court that a client of his had crashed his car on the way to court, and while he was not injured, would not be able to appear.
State Solicitor, Ciaran Liddy, told the court that he had no objection to the cases being adjourned until June when the weather will be better.
