During her address, Ms Laverty said the club had a ‘very busy and successful year’, adding that despite ‘some problems’, the club was in a healthy state.

“Quite a bit of money was expended during the year, the purchasing of new radio microphones, compete refurnishing of the Greenroom, painting of all of the basement area and engaging contract cleaners to leave the place as good as new, a sum of €500 was donated to the Sean O’Hare Unit, part of the proceeds of the Ladies Night.

“A total of €35,000 was expended during the year, most of which was spent in the Twin Towns area. Box Office receipts showed a profit for two of the shows (the Pant and Ladies Night) and a loss on the two other shows (Parlour Song, the festival play and Little Shop of Horrors) and a fifth box office taking (The Murder Mystery) was allocated to the theatre fund.

While the bank balance was ‘down about €6,000’, Ms Laverty said the problem of obtaining a suitable space to construct sets was also still ‘ongoing’.

Forthcoming productions by the Butt Drama Circle Ltd include the Wizard of Oz panto and Secondary Schools Festival in November, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams in February/March, followed by the annual Drama Festival Circuit.
