Busy week ahead at An Grianán Theatre

 

There’s a very busy week ahead at An Grianán Theatre. This Tuesday, December 6 it’s the return of Ballet Ireland with a very seasonal Nutcracker Sweeties. The production will include dancer Tadhg Brennan, from Ramelton, who recently completed a BA Modern Ballet course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and started his ballet career as a very young boy at a ballet summer school in An Grianán.

On Wednesday Conor O’Brien, better known as Villagers, brings his acoustic tour back to the county where it all started. His Mercury Prize Nominated album ‘Becoming a Jackal’ was recorded by Tommy McLaughlin in Termon. Conor’s current album Fever Dreams was released by Domino Records in 2021. This two and a half hour show will showcase songs from the past twelve years. 

 

On Thursday the staff and elected members of Donegal County Council are coming together to provide a night of light-hearted entertainment for all. Beidh meascán de shiamsaíocht i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla ann. The programme will include both Irish and English acts of song, dance, comedy, drama, recitation and much more all drawn from the talents of the Council’s own resources.

 

On Saturday, December 10 at 1pm in the theatre foyer there will be the opening of an Exhibition of Ukrainian Art. The curator of this unique set of Artworks, Svitlana Babenko, has brought together this special collection of works by Ukrainian artists, both amateur and professional. The exhibition opening will be followed at 1.45pm to 2:30pm by the performance in the auditorium of An Grianán/IMC Navigator Jazz artist-in-residence Olesya Zdorovetska, joined by special guests. 

 

On top of all that rehearsals continue for Constellations which will take place on December 16 and 17, featuring nine local groups including the Letterkenny Music and Drama Group, Workhouse Theatre Company, Pinehill Studios, Zara Holmes Performing Arts Academy, Rainbow Theatre Group, ZoNa Dance Company, Lifford Players Drama Group, An Grianán Youth Theatre and Triumph Performing Arts. This show aims to combine these collective talents in a production where you will be taken on an exciting journey through some of the best scenes in musical theatre, dance and drama.
