Business owners invited back to school for a day

BUSINESS owners and employers are being invited back to school for a day as part of a unique project organised by Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny.

It’s hoped ‘Let’s Head Back to School For a Day’ will allow the school to build better links with local businesses. And it will give members of the business community a chance to see how the school is preparing its pupils for life in the workplace.

Coláiste Ailigh is inviting employers and business stakeholders in the community to go back to school for a day on Tuesday next, April 25.

Vice-principal Rosa Nic Lochlainn, who is organising the event, said the idea is to help build relationships and better communication between the school and the business community.

“In recent times employers have been saying that schools need to better prepare their students for life in the workplace,” she said.

“They are right in many ways, but in truth, schools aren’t going to be able to better prepare their students without businesses and schools talking to each other.

“Employers might say they know what goes on in the school environment because after all, they were students themselves. But time moves on and things have changed since we went to school ourselves. Those employers who come along to our event next Tuesday will see first hand for themselves just what we are doing.”

Ms Nic Lochlainn said the school’s location along Letterkenny’s Business Park Road makes it even more important to improve relationships with the business community.

“It’s all about having joined-up thinking and the school and our business community can only benefit by building these links.”

Those who attend next Tuesday’s event will be able to see first hand the nature of education and learning for the young people at Coláiste Ailigh who will be employees and hopefully leaders and entrepreneurs of the future.

The day will be conducted through the medium of English (Coláiste Ailigh is an Irish-speaking school), but participants will get a chance to try out as much or as little of their Irish as they like.
