THE Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Soapbox Race returns on Sunday, May 31 for its fourth year and this year promises to be as competitive as ever.
The event has proved a popular addition to the fundraising and local event calendar in Bundoran as it sees the take over of the Astoria Road in the town to facilitate the soapbox race and offer optimum viewing for the thousands of spectators expected on the day.
Once again the perpetual trophy will be up for grabs and is currently held by Ward Automation who after three years of trying to secure it finally succeeded in 2014.
Event Director Cormac McGurren is encouraging as many entries as possible. “We are hoping to see a lot of return entries this year as well as plenty of new soapboxes being entered for the first time.
“As the event is getting closer we would advise teams to get together and start building their soapboxes so that they will be ready on time for May 31.Our website is live once again this year at www.bundoranlifeboatsoapboxrace.com where you can get more details and also register your entry.”
Bundoran Lifeboat Volunteer Press Officer Shane Smyth said: “It really is a great day for all the family and as well as having the soapbox racing going on there will also be activities to keep kids occupied as well. The event kicks off at 1pm at Astoria Road Bundoran and will culminate in the €1000 ball race. Balls will be sold on the day and the first one down the hill on the day will win the grand prize.”
