Boosting Donegal teenagers’ confidence with Junior Toastmasters

ARE you aged between 13-18? Would you like to become a more confident speaker? It’s a key skill for life and work. Here’s a great opportunity to do just that.

A Junior Toastmasters Letterkenny (Gavel Club), open to students aged 13 to 18, has been in existence for the past two years and was set up with the support and help from the Senior Toastmasters Club in Letterkenny. They are holding their next meeting on Sunday February 2nd at 4pm (normally 5pm) in the Mt Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny.

Junior Toastmaster Sean Harkin said: “I think Toastmaster is a great way for people to improve and learn public speaking skills. It will surely benefit our members in the future, and with school projects presentations in College and job interviews.”
His club member Aoife Dowds added: “Toastmasters has many benefits, in the work place school and in life. The aim of Toastmasters is to improve public speaking skills and for me it has.

“I am no longer afraid to take part in the table topics and it also gives me the confidence to voice my opinion in everyday life. I would recommend Toastmasters to everyone young and old.”

Toastmasters International (TI) is a non-profit educational organisation that operates clubs world-wide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a programme of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking.
