Letterkenny businessman and mountaineer Jason Black has said that a deadly avalanche on a mountain just beside K2 that climbers use to acclimatise won’t put him off his bid to climb K2.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Jason called on mother nature to be kind.
“In the early hours this morning (Monday) seven from our seven summit sister team were climbing up to camp one on Broad Peak – the mountain just beside K2 that climbers use to acclimatise – an avalanche has hit all seven climbers, six have been recovered with a few slightly injured and one is still missing from the team. Information within our team is that it’s a high altitude Pakistani Sherpa that’s not accounted for , our seven summit team Sherpas are in rescue mode right now……A few of us have dropped down to Broadpeak basecamp in support. Mother nature’s gentle reminder,” he said.
“We put in a tough day in the mountains today loosing the teams high altitude Pakistani Sherpa to Mother Nature & six members from our seven summit sister team on Broadpeak just escaping with injury – it was a sobering moment to witness. Mother Nature be kind,” he added.
