WHEN Kellyann Brogan’s partner Ruairí Drummond treated her to a special day out at Glenevin Waterfall in Clonmany on her birthday in February, little did she know it would lead to a surprise proposal.
Kellyann, from Carrigans, met Ballyshannon man Ruairí when she was a sous chef in Harvey’s Point Hotel and he worked in the bar. Ruairí must have known they would be the perfect blend, as he began to come into work early so he could spend some time chatting with Kellyann before his shift began.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Kellyann told of the how Ruairí’s proposal was full of thoughtfulness.
“We got engaged at the waterfall in Clonmany on my birthday in February of this year. It was a really special day. The waterfall is somewhere I used to go a lot when I was growing up but myself and Ruairí had never been there together. We had been talking about my little brother, Eoin, who died in 2023. We were telling stories, and that’s when Ruairí proposed, it was really special.”
The couple married on November 29 in St Baithin’s Church in St Johnston, followed by a stunning reception in Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny.

A stand out moment for Kellyann was arriving to St Baithin’s Church and being surrounded by all their loved ones.
“It was so special to get married there, as that is where I made my first holy communion and my confirmation,” said Kellyann.
“The whole church was filled to capacity with our families and friends, there were even people standing at the back of the church. It was so emotional and special to know that they all showed up for us,” added Ruairí.
“The weather held up brilliantly. We had the sausages buried and the Child of Prague out,” laughed Kellyann.
Following their special ceremony, the couple travelled to Dunmore Gardens to have their photographs taken, where something very poignant happened.
“Throughout our whole time at the gardens there was a robin that was always in our presence. We took huge comfort from it, we believe it was Ruairí’s mum Ann and my brother, Eoin. It was very special.”
The couple chose the Mount Errigal Hotel for their wedding venue, where Kellyann now works as a sous chef.
“There was nowhere else we would choose if we were to do it all again,” said Kellyann.
“All of our guests are still commenting about the quality of the food. From the canapés, to the drinks reception, the duck for our main course and the buffet, everything was simply perfect.
“The staff were absolutely brilliant. We would definitely recommend the Mount Errigal Hotel to any brides and grooms to be. We’d like to give huge praise to the hotel’s wedding coordinator Bronagh and Terry McEniff.
“We planned our wedding day in eight months, and it was just perfect.”
The couple have bought a home in Carrigans, and are very much looking forward to celebrating their first Christmas as Mr and Mrs, but, for now, they are enjoying the first leg of a relaxing honeymoon in Florida, followed by a cruise.
