WATCH: International Women’s Day- Studied reflexology following an operation in a bid to self heal

A reflexologist and aromatherapist who said she started studying reflexology following an operation in a bid to self heal is now in her first year of business at her studio in Riverside Retail Park in Letterkenny.

Olivia Maguire, founder of ‘Reflexology by Olivia’ said her first year of business has been exciting but nervewracking at the same time.

“I have always been fascinated with the mind body connection for as long as I can remember. I started studying complementary therapies over fifteen years ago but it was more for personal use.

“It wasn’t until I myself had an operation in 2018 that I saw a little mark on my foot and when I investigated it was actually in the exact point that I had just operated on. That really caught my interest and as I healed the mark itself faded down so that was my start into reflexology.

“I went then and started to study my diploma and then I went further and did advanced reflexology studies,” she said.

Reflexology is based on the concept that the body is mirrored onto the feet so by applying pressure to certain areas and on nerves, they will have an affect on the corosponding organs, muscles, tissues or system that you are working with.

Olivia said her favourite thing about her job is doing something that fills her heart with joy and contentment.

“My favourite thing about my job is getting up everyday and doing something that enlivens and energises me,” she said.

Offering advice to other women who may be curious about starting a business, Olivia said her advice is that you’re never too old to start something new.
