She said she had originally planned on doing human resources and management but after a year out, she opted for a different career path.

“I went to North West Regional College and trained in beauty and nails technology.

“While I was studying, I set up my business and it will be open seven years this year.

“I also did a HND in hair and beauty management and eventually got a job as a part time lecturer,” said Vanessa.

Vanessa said she is creative and loves transforming her client’s nails into handpainted masterpieces, while offering a listening ear to all their problems.

“I love my clients. They are without a doubt the best thing about my job.

“They are my bread and butter and without them, I wouldn’t be doing what I love everyday.

“I also love how everyday is completely different, doing different nails and being creative,” said Vanessa.

While she admits it can be tough at times, she said starting her business is the best thing she has ever done.

Offering advice to other women who might have a business idea, Vanessa said, “If you have a dream you should follow it.”

“Absolutely do it.

“Obviously it is a lot of hard work and dedication but the results are amazing.

“And it is true what they say, if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life,” said Vanessa.
