Warning over scam messages

DONEGAL Gardai have warned people to be aware of scams as fraudulent text messages are rampant in the county.
In recent weeks, there has been a major increase in fraudsters attempting to scam people with text messages from banks and major companies.
A spokesperson for Donegal Gardai shared a selection of scam text messages received recently including messages from people pretending to be AIB and Currys.
The sole aim of the fraudster in these cases is to obtain your banking details and unfortunately, this type of scam text message may appear in a genuine thread of messages from your bank.
Warning people about the scams, Gardai warned that financial institutions will never send you a text message containing a link in order for you to confirm your details or to provide them with personal and financial details.
People are advised not to respond to unsolicited text messages and do not click on any links contained within them. Do not provide any personal/financial details and simply delete the message.
If you have fallen victim to this scam, alert your financial institution without delay and report the matter to Gardaí.
