A SEARCH operation is continuing off Buncrana this evening after a group of teenagers got into difficulty while swimming earlier today.
RTÉ is tonight reporting that a teenager remains missing and another was taken from the sea and brought to Letterkenny University Hospital and his condition is said to be ‘very serious’.
According to RTÉ, another teenager managed to swim ashore.
The search and rescue operation got underway after a member of the public reported that a group of swimmers had gotten into difficulty while swimming at Ned’s Point.
Earlier this evening, Gardai confirmed that the search was ongoing.
A Garda spokeserpson said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation off the coast of Buncrana in Co. Donegal this afternoon, Saturday 10th May 2025.
“Garda units from Donegal North are involved in this operation, alongside the Coast Guard and ambulance services.
“The search remains ongoing. No further information is available at this time.”
The Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter and several RNLI lifeboat are involved in the search along with several local boats.
