Uber ‘walking buddy’ gag causes a stir ahead of Donegal Rally weekend

A Letterkenny campsite has taken to social media to “advertise” their new ‘walking buddy’ feature ahead of this year’s Donegal International Rally.

Located on the grounds of O’Donnell Park, Donegal Campsite claimed they have “teamed up” with popular ridesharing app Uber in a bid to offer the service.

“So rather than paying €6 to get a taxi from the centre of town to the Donegal Campsite, you can now get paid to walk home one of your fellow campers!,” the post read.

A photo accompanying the post clearly shows “Walking Buddy” as an option that can be requested in the Uber app.

However, a spokesperson from Donegal Campsite today confirmed that the post was nothing more than a joke, with one follower even asking if they could choose the gender of their walking buddy.

But did everyone get the joke?

A few followers expressed their concerns in the comments section of the post, with one asking if walking buddies would be Garda vetted to ensure the service was safe.
