Tory Island to feature on Ear to the Ground tonight

TORY Island will feature on tonight’s episode of Ear to the Ground when RTÉ presenter Ella McSweeney will take a trip out to see the islanders greet six cows on the land for the first time in 25 years.

In July as part of the Corncrake LIFE Project, six young Galloway Heifers made the nine mile trip from the mainland across to the island to their new home.

Ella made the journey with them from Seanie Boyle’s farm where they were raised, onto the ferry and across the sea to Tory, where they were warmly welcomed by the locals with music and singing.

The popular farming and rural affairs programme is now in its 30th season. Tonight’s episode will also see Darragh McCullough meet a turkey grower to see how he is coping with the threat of bird flu. Meanwhile Helen Caroll speaks to a farmer participating in the Burren Programme who stands to lose out financially through the new Agricultural Climate Rural Environmental Scheme (ACRES).

Tonight’s episode will air at 7pm on RTÉ One and will be repeated on Sunday at 1.10pm.
