CLOSE TO 6,500 patients were admitted to hospital without a bed at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) in 2025, according to figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) TrolleyWatch.
Last year, 2,250 patients were left waiting on trolleys in the Emergency Department, while an additional 4,234 patients were without beds in wards across the hospital.
As of this morning, 23 patients were without a bed at LUH. 16 were in the Emergency Department and 7 were in wards throughout the hospital.
This was the second highest figure reported in the country on New Year’s Eve, following only Cork University Hospital, where 26 patients were without a bed.
Nationally, 114,029 patients, including 1,248 children, were admitted to hospital without a bed in 2025 according to the INMO figures released earlier today.
