Chris Cannon is a well-known figure in Donegal soccer circles, and has been an integral player for Dunlewey Celtic down through the years.

He played his underage and youth football with Gweedore Celtic, before going on to represent Dunlewey and Glenea United at senior level. He also enjoyed a spell with Finn Harps Under 19s.

Cannon has this week picked the best 11 (3-5-2) he has faced over his career, with honourable mentions for Chris Sweeney (Gweedore Celtic), Benny McLaughlin (Cappry) and Frank McGee (Gweedore United).

Conrad Logan (Swilly Rovers): I played against Conrad a good bit underage and played with him too in Ian Rush tournament in Wales and Milk Cup. He was a good man to have behind you for organising and shot stopping. An all-rounder, I’m not surprised he made it in England.

Eugene Maguire (Glenea United): Eugene is a great defender. Not much gets by him and he’s a good man to play out from the back.

Seamie ‘Coshia’ Friel (Kerrykeel/Fanad): ‘Coshia’ played with Kerrykeel for a season. He is as strong as a bull and good in the air. Reads the game well too.

Odhran Mac Niallais (Gweedore Celtic): Odhrán is gifted. He has pure natural talent and makes everything look easy.

Aiden McGeady (Queen’s Park): I was playing with Gweedore Celtic Under 12s and we played Queen’s Park from Glasgow in a friendly. Aiden McGeady was playing and he was different class altogether. I left a few marks on him that day because I couldn’t get near the ball.

Chris Malseed (Letterkenny Rovers/Drumoghill): I had some battles with this man from underage right up to senior. A real box-to-box midfielder. I always got the job to try and stop him.

Eamonn Cannon (Gweedore Celtic/Glenea United): Eamonn is a cousin of mine but I played against him more than with him. The collection of medals he has says it all and still going strong.

Frank McGlynn (Drumkeen/Cappry): Frank is very athletic and a good ball player. I went up against him a lot at youth level and played with him too at the Ian Rush tournament. He got trials with Everton after that which says it all about him really.

Denis Boyle (Glenea United): I played against Denis once and that was enough. I still have nightmares and he reminds me of it now and again when I meet him. A great passer of a ball and very skilful.

Tomas Diver (Gweedore United/Gweedore Celtic): There was many a local derby Tomas ruined on me when he was playing with Gweedore United and Celtic. A great goalscorer and a sweet left foot. He was hard to handle and still is.

Davitt Walsh (Fanad United): Another man that was hard to handle. We had many battles at underage and at youth level. I played with him at underage too, and Davitt had a good first touch and could always find the back of the net.
