AN TAOISEACH Enda Kenny TD was in Letterkenny on Monday morning for a brief visit when he turned the sod for the new Science Park at LYIT and officially opened Colaiste Ailigh.
At LYIT, amid tight garda security, Mr Kenny was handed a letter by St Eunan’s students Nicholas Lane and Ayrton Kelly setting out their urgent need for an extension to the school.
Inside the business incubation unit at LYIT – CoLab – Adrian Gallagher handed Mr Kenny a letter on behalf of the National Diaspora Center of Ireland. In the letter Mr Gallagher seeks assistance for the refurbishment of Rockhill House, former army barracks, to accommodate the centre.
President of LYIT Paul Hannigan welcomed the Taoiseach saying that in five years time he hoped LYIT will be “the most innovative centrer in the country”.
Mr Kenny officially opened Colaiste Ailigh and enjoyed a concert by the schools orchestra and choir.
The Taoiseach refused to take questions from members of the press during his visit.
