SUBMISSIONS for a new book looking back on the once popular Summer Cup competitions will close this Monday.
The book is being compiled by members of the Letterkenny Community Heritage Group and will explore the people and places behind the Summer Cup phenomena.
Earlier this year the heritage group asked people to dust off old suitcases and shoeboxes in a bid to turn up any information that may exist on the football competitions that ran between 1950 and 1980.
The response has been huge, according to local historian Johnny Joe McCollum. So much so that they are having to close the submission date off earlier than predicted.
“If I can thank everyone who has got in touch to date,” Mr McCollum said.
“We have had so many photographs and stories submitted and it has been lovely to relive the days of the Summer Cup.”
Once all editing is complete and information collated, the book should be ready for publication some time in August.
