STORM Barra is causing havoc across this morning.
Flooding and damage has been reported in some southern counties, most notably Cork and Kerry.
And while Donegal is expected to escape the absolute worst of the violent weather system, Met Éireann is warning of high winds, sleet and snow.
According to some commuters parts of west Donegal are already feeling Barra’s lash with electrical faults reported in two locations. And that sort of difficult activity is likely to continue for some hours yet.
In terms of what Donegal can expect, Met Éireann says Storm Barra will bring widespread mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h and gusts of 90 to 110 km/h with localised stronger winds likely. Heavy rain will also bring risks of surface flooding and, due to a combination of high waves, storm surge and high tide, coastal flooding is expected. Disruption to power and travel are likely.
The weather warning is in place until 1pm however further updates are expected as events unfold.
