VICTIMS of drink ‘spiking’ are being urged to come forward and report it to local gardaí in the wake of an incident in Derrybeg.

Gardaí received reports of people passing out at a premises in Derrybeg on Friday night .  However, on arrival to the scene, no-one was present and the staff at the location were not aware of the incident.

There are also unconfirmed reports of a spiking incident involving three women in Letterkenny on Friday night. The alleged incident was shared on social media.

Asked about this, a garda spokesperson said “they had not been made aware of the incident”.

A garda spokesperson told the Donegal News: “All incidents of sexual crime including those with evidence to suggest a link with ‘spiking’ are fully an thoroughly investigated by local Gardaí attached to Divisional Proactive Services Units supported by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau.

Meanwhile, the HSE has issued safety advice amid the reopening of the night time economy following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

Their advice to those who think their drink has been spiked is to first tell someone you trust like a friend or security staff. If you still have some of the drink left, the HSE advises you keep hold of it as possible as it may be used as evidence.

‘If you feel unwell, ask a friend to take you to the emergency department and report the incident to gardaí as soon as possible.
