Safety works begin at busy junction

WORK began this week at the junction of Golf Course Road, Kiltoy Road and Letterkenny to Ramelton Road where parents had expressed serious concerns about their children getting on and off school buses.

In September local parent Mags Kelly of Cornagill explained that pupils attending at least three second level schools – Loreto, St Eunan’s and The Royal and Prior – were picked up and dropped off there. Mags and other parents and residents were seriously worried about the safety of the children at such a busy junction where the children had to walk along a narrow grass verge and cross a very busy road.
Buses picking up children for the various schools were having to do U-turns on the Golf Course Road entrance which has roads turning in two different directions.

Speaking to the Donegal News Mags said she and the other parents and residents involved very much welcomed the safety works being undertaken by the council at the busy junction.
“It is just brilliant to see this work being done to keep our children and other pedestrians safe here. We have been nagging about it now for around three years. We are very grateful for the work being done and thrilled that it makes the junction safer for our children and other residents,” she said.
Mags paid tribute to everyone who helped make this happen including Royal and Prior Principal Howard Welsh, local man Michael Parkinson and Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh.

Speaking yesterday Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh said he welcomed the work being done to make
