KILCAR’S favourite musical export Rory Gallagher is looking forward to welcoming guests to his very own establishment on the island of Lanzarote.

While 2012 proved to be an incredible year for the singer with his song Jimmy’s Winning Matches becoming the anthem for Donegal’s All-Ireland win, this year Rory is looking forward to opening The Island Bar in the old town of Puerto del Carmen in March.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Rory said he and his wife Cara were very excited when they signed the papers on Thursday morning.

He said: “I am delighted to finally be opening my own venue in Lanzarote and it will be open in time for St Patrick’s Day.

“It will be called The island bar and it will be easy to spot with the massive Donegal Flag with Jimmy’s Winning Matches hanging out the window,” he laughed.

Rory and Cara have been living on the island for five years and the singers has entertained thousands of holidaymakers in various establishments on Lanzarote.

He said: “We have made so many friends on holidays over the years, it would be mad not to try our own thing. The bar used to be called ‘Jimmys’, I knew that was a sign!

One thing is for sure, The Island Bar will become a huge attraction on the island and no doubt Rory and Cara will look forward to welcoming lots of visitors from County Donegal and Jimmy from Senegal might welcome friends from ‘Kilcarrrrrr’.
