A new single from country singer Brendan Quinn takes a look at the pandemic and its impact on the older generation.
‘Will We Ever Be Free’ was released on Friday and examines the trials and tribulations of Covid for a person in their 70s. From not seeing family, cocooning and trying to keep active, Brendan’s lament at how times have changed will connect with everyone during these strange days.
During the lockdown Brendan performed 100 online Facebook gigs in 100 consecutive days. His undying desire to perform never wavered and he did the one thing he loves to do and was able to stay connected to his fans.
The Covid-19 lockdown has been a difficult time for many people, none more so than the over 70s. But for Brendan it has also been a very productive time.
“Not being able to do what I’ve been doing for 50 odd years came as a bit of shock,” said Brendan.
“Everything just stopped last February, no more music. I had a 14 day tour lined up for May, gigs and festivals over the summer, all cancelled. But I tried to stay positive, I walked most every day and started to stream gigs live on Facebook from my front room. I did it every day for 100 days and I reckon I sang about 700 songs. I really
enjoyed interacting with all the folk online but it’s just not the same as playing in front of an audience but it kept me connected to my music.”
Brendan also kept scribbling away in his jotter and came up with some new songs, which will be released on an album in time for Christmas.
His latest single, ‘Will We Ever Be Free’, along with a video was released to all digital platforms Friday. Recorded and produced by Billy Robinson, the song features Billy on bass, Lawerence Doherty drums, Pat Crowley piano, Pete O’Hanlon guitar, Dermot Byrne accordion, Brendan acoustic guitar and Jonathan Smeaton on backing
vocals.
“I’m looking forward to getting out and promoting the new single,” Brendan added.
