PAUL Durcan’s transfer from Four Masters to Dublin club Ballyboden St Enda’s will be formally ratified at the May meeting of the Donegal county committee.
As revealed in Friday’s Donegal News, the 30-year-old Donegal town man is to make the switch to the Firhouse Road-based club.
Durcan and his wife, Edel, live in Dublin, where the 2012 and 2014 All-Star goalkeeper works with 3D Personnel, a construction recruitment company.
Four Masters have confirmed that they have given their blessing to Durcan’s move.
“Four Masters GAA club wish to confirm that a transfer request for Paul Durcan has been received to the club from Ballyboden St Enda’s and it will be formally approved at the May Donegal GAA County Committee monthly meeting,” a statement from Four Masters read.
Durcan has been in discussion with Ballyboden St Enda’s since March. Durcan’s cousin, Robbie McDaid, a Dublin Under-21 panelist, plays for Ballyboden, also the club of Dublin star Michael Darragh MacAuley.
The Four Masters statement said: “The Four Masters GAA club would like to put on record its sincere thanks to Paul for the commitment he has given to the club from U10 to Senior. Paul was only 9 years old when Donegal won its first All Ireland in 1992. He played in the Ted Webb Cup U16 in goals in 1999. Paul has risen up through the ranks along with Barry Monaghan, Michael Doherty, Barry Dunnion and Karl Lacey and won a County Senior Football Championship medal in 2003, he then joined the Donegal Senior Squad in 2004, and has given his county great service for over a decade.
“The club are extremely proud of all Paul’s achievements, three Ulster Senior titles, one All Ireland title and two all-star awards 2012 and 2014 and other individual awards. He has given great sacfrices and commitment for both the club and county. We wish Paul the very best for the future at his new club Ballyboden St Enda’s in which is their gain and also continued success with County Donegal for 2015.”
Last week, Rory Gallagher, the Donegal manager, moved to allay fears that the transfer would raise questions about Durcan’s inter-county future.
Gallagher said: “Paul is very happy and enjoying it at the moment. It was unfortunate that he was in the car smash last weekend, but Paul’s fine and, I feel, for the first time maybe since the All-Ireland, that he’s content and is enjoying it again, which is great for us.”
