Passenger numbers at airport not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels

By Róise Collins

THE number of passengers travelling through Donegal Airport has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels, figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed.

36,934 passengers travelled through Donegal Airport last year, this is almost 25 per cent lower than the 48,542 passengers that travelled in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2021 just shy of 15,000 passengers travelled through Donegal Airport, this is the lowest footfall recorded in over 15 years.

As travel restrictions eased in 2022 Donegal Airport saw the figures increase by over 150 per cent from the record low in the previous year.

The highest number recorded by the CSO was in 2008 when over 65,000 passengers travelled through the airport’s terminal.

Donegal Airport will see a boost in travellers this summer as Loganair restores their services between Donegal and Glasgow.

The twice weekly service will run from July 1 to September 24.
