Over €10 million worth of Help to Buy claims approved in Donegal

OVER €10 million worth of Help to Buy claims have been approved in Donegal since the schemes inception in 2017.

The Help to Buy (HTB) incentive is a scheme to assist first-time purchasers with the deposit they need to buy or build a new house or apartment.

The incentive gives a refund of Income Tax and Deposit Interest Retention Tax (DIRT) paid in the State over the previous four years.

Revenue data shows that 37,300 claims for the Help to Buy scheme have been approved to date since inception, with the number of applicants associated with these claims totalling 68,600.

The highest figure was in Dublin where €174.1 million worth of claims have been in approved, followed by Cork where the figure is €100.6 million. The lowest value was in Leitrim where the claims totalled €1.8 million.

The data reveals that the value of Help to Buy claims in six individual counties (Wicklow, Meath, Kildare, Galway, Dublin and Cork) have each claimed more than in the whole of the North West combined (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo).

In the North West the total value of the approved claims since 2017 is €30.4 million.
