Online fundraiser for Glenties museum

BY DIONNE MEEHAN

ARTEFACTS, literature, treasures and memories are just a few things contained within St. Connell’s Museum in Glenties.

Having to close its doors in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic due to mounting bills, it has never reopened.

A gofundme page has now been set up in the hope the museum will once again be able to open its doors.

Founded by a committee of local history enthusiasts on a mission to preserve all things local, the museum is now in its fourth decade of service.

Due to the fact the museum is a not for profit organisation, it is completely dependent on fundraising and patrons walking through the doors, but as it stands, the doors are closed.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Laura McCormack, the last person to work in the museum, said they are desperate for your help to clear the way for the doors to reopen once more.

“The pandemic severed our ability to support ourselves. Not only will your donation grant us safe passage back to servicing the local community, it will return a wonderful asset to local tourism and business, and preserve our profound historical legacy for generations to come,” she said.

With many locals using the museum for a cuppa and a chat, the main aim behind the reopening of the museum is for the youth in the town.
