New Tourism Officer appointed for Bundoran

ERNE Enterprise, in association with Bundoran Town Council and Discover Bundoran, have today announced the appointment of the new full time tourism officer for Bundoran – local man Shane Smyth.

Speaking at the Bundoran Tourist Office, where Shane will be based, Chairperson of both Bundoran Town Council and Erne Enterprise, Philip McGlynn said ‘we are delighted to welcome Shane on board as Tourism Officer for Ireland’s Premiere Seaside Resort – a local with a huge enthusiasm and passion for the town.

On foot of this appointment we are also thrilled to advise that, in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland North West that the Tourist Office will be open from St Patrick’s weekend until November 1 providing a central location for both visitors for information, and for business and tourism providers in the town also’.

Shane was one of the driving forces behind the successful staging of the European Surfing Championships in Bundoran in 2011 and is currently volunteer lifeboat press officer for Bundoran RNLI. He hosts a daily drive-time show on Ocean FM.

Commenting on his appointment he said: “It’s a great honour for me to be the Tourism Officer for Bundoran – a town I grew up in and have a great love for.

“Any opportunity I can get to talk about Bundoran I’ll take – be it with a local, friends from all over the world or a stranger! I’m looking forward to the role and to promoting all the great activities and experiences for all ages that Bundoran has to offer.”

The appointment comes as the town’s main attraction Waterworld completes its renovations following an investment of €1.6million cementing it as Ireland’s biggest indoor aqua adventure playground.

New attractions this year include a Galleon Ship, Gravity Speed Slide, 3 lane multi slide and a toddler pool. McGlynn added: “It’s shaping up to be a great year for tourism in Bundoran and we look forward to the 2013 season in earnest.”
